How to Start a Business Blog

If you’re an expert in business, there are many ways to share what you know. One of the best ways to do this is through a blog. In 2018, there are many people who make the assumptions that blogs are no longer relevant. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. A blog is an excellent way to establish yourself as a credible voice in the industry and create content on a regular basis. There are a few ways to get started with the business blog of your dreams.

1. Get a website.
First, it’s time to get a home for your blog. Come up with a catchy name for your blog. If you want to have a better chance at ranking in the search engines, use a long-tail keyword phrase in your domain name. Once you’ve got it all figured out and trademarked, buy domain rights and web hosting. If you’re not a huge fan of the process of building a site, coding and HTML, use a plug-and-play option from sites like Wix and Squarespace.

2. Create an editorial calendar.
It’s important to create a calendar that you can stick to. Don’t overwhelm yourself with the task of posting new blog content on a daily basis. Instead, start small. Whether it’s one post or two posts every week, get used to the slow build. If you’re not sure what topics to start with, go to social media. Create a status and ask your friends what questions they have about the business industry. Save all the questions and use each question as an opportunity for a new blog post. When you do this, you have a better chance of retaining an audience that will read answers to the questions they have right now.

3. Make marketing a priority.
Develop a strong marketing plan that includes a daily rotation. There are lots of scheduling programs that allow you to create content and schedule how much it’s shared. When this happens, you don’t have to worry about reposting the content over again. As long as you schedule the posts to go out at specific times, you’ll be fine. Post blog posts on Twitter, Facebook and article marketing sites.

4. Consider professional experts.
If you’d like to expand your reach, it’s a good idea to connect with those who already have an audience. The best way to make this happen is to take a look at some of the other business bloggers in your niche. Try to pick a range of bloggers. Reach out to some with a similar-sized platform. Choose others who have more followers and then reach out to a few who have really large followings. It’s a good idea to cast your net wide. The worst they can say is no. If they say yes, do an interview with them and feature it on your blog. Tag them in the blog post so that their audiences can see the post. This will widen your reach as well.

There are so many moving parts to producing an excellent blog. As long as you remain consistent with these efforts, your business blog will go far.
