Why SMEs Should Advertise On-Hold

A study of over 1,000 United Kingdom consumers last year, aimed at determining what the general consensus was on UK business call handling standards. The results revealed that only 23% of people in the UK are happy with the way businesses handle their phone calls.

Satisfaction levels were particularly low among the older generation – only 12% of 55 to 64-year-olds reported to be content.

However, 45% of the consumers in the UK reported to be happy to be on hold for longer than a minute when calling businesses. Only 6% said they would not be willing to wait at all. I guess this is further proof that Brits love a good queue!

The study also revealed that 51% of those who are willing to wait on hold feel more valued as a customer if they hear a professional audio production. 40% even claimed that quality audio productions would encourage them to wait longer!

So what do these survey results mean for your business?

If more than half of consumers feel more valued as a customer when they hear a professional audio production then it seems like a sensible option to play some audio to them whilst they are on-hold.

This doesn’t mean cheesy music and a sentence every 10 seconds saying “Sorry, you’re number 34 in the queue.” Instead, this presents itself as an opportunity to play on-hold advertising down the phone to them.
